The room i rented at Marta and Omars was spacious and comfortable. There was a double bed, single bed and a cot so good for families also. Good fan and air conditioning with a fridge in the room where Marta put a bottle of boiled water in the fridge daily. Its in a great location five minutes from the Malecon, a balcony with a sea view and a street view where i enjoyed having my good strong coffee. It is only a 15 minute walk to Vieja. I rarely needed taxis once i got the grid of the city. An independent bathroom with a bath and good shower with 24 hrs hot water. Clean. The building was secure.

Casa style: Fantastic hosts, Comfertable, Roomy, Safe
Amenities: Internet, Private entrance, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Balcony, Ceiling fan
How was your room?: MY room was spacious and clean. Good storage. Good air conditioning and fan. A fridge where Marta put boiled and chilled water daily. There was a comfortable double, single and a cot so good for families.
I had an independent bathroom with 24 hrs hot water and decent shower pressure. A bath and v clean.
How was the food the offer?: Marta cooked fabulous breakfasts tortiallas, v good bread and v strong good coffee. Good fruit juices and fruit. And pancakes with syrup that set me up for the day. Unfortunately i didnt have a meal in the evening as my budget was running low however i dont doubt she can cook.
Other services they offer: Marta and Omar have many contacts, they have an internet service and you can use there phone, Marta will even call on your behalf in situations where you need good english.
Marta also did my laundry as a complimentry service.
Other comments: I only planned to stay at this Casa for 3 days but I was happy and comfortable there so ended up staying a full week.
When i arrived late and tired and with a few money problems as i had lost money in Trinidad and my debit card didnt work.
Marta and Omar immediately put me at ease and made lots of phone calls on my behalf. Marta wanted to take me to the banks and Tourist info but had a dental appointment, her english is very good. She asked Omar her husband to sort things out with me in the morning. They really were kind and trusting that I would get this solved. And I did. They gave me my space and were always there if I needed anything.
Very good trusting people Im very glad i met and would definately stay again and be in touch on my return to Habana. I now consider friends.

I booked a casa particular with Ivan and Cristina Lopez,  256 Manrique between Neptuno and Concordia, central Havana in Sept. 2009 for 2 weeks during the Christmas period. The period I booked for was Christmas 2009. I confirmed by email one week before I went, that yes everything was in order and I would be arriving as planned. I arrived at the house on 27th Dec. to be told by Ivan that he thought I would not arrive and he gave away my room!!
I had travelled from Europe  and as you can imagine I was not a happy camper. He arranged for me to stay downstairs in the house of Fernando and Rosa. It was a dump and they tried to rip me off for meals and doing my laundry. They were contantly watching me and I had to ring the doorbell if I came in later than midnight. After I returned home I sent an email to Ivan saying I was not happy about how I was treated. He wrote back with a completely different excuse to the one he gave me in Havana as to why he gave away my room. He cannot be trusted and I would not recommend anyone staying in his house or with Fernando and Rosa downstairs. They are not nice people, and you could arrive Ivan’s house with a reservation only to be turned away.

Casa style: No frills,
How was your room?: very basic. they changed the bedsheets only once in two weeks. very noisy. no privacy
How was the food the offer?: poor

I really like the casa, the room is quiet, has private bathroom, but on the other hand I have a great contact with the family. The people are very kind. Also, the house is nice, it is a colonial house with a large living room. And I spend a lot of time on the balcony, it is on the first floor and you can observe daily life in Centro Habana. The casa is in centro habana, so you are in the middle of life of habana, but still you are in the safer part of Centro Habana, close to El Vedado. The casa owner knows La Habana very well and can tell a lot of things about daily life in Havana and he also likes to talk.

Casa style: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Colonial, Cozy, Roomy, Safe
Amenities: TV, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Laundry service, Balcony,
How was your room?: The bed is good, the room is quite spacy, there is a private bathroom, refrigerator in the room and airconditioning. Also, in Summer the room is relatively cool, so I dont need the airco.
How was the food the offer?: The breakfast is good, has plenty of fruit as I like it. You can get any type of food (camarones, pescado), but I prefer to eat the regular cuban food with the family: picadillo, frigoles y arroz.
Other services they offer: Washing laundry, sending emails, helping you with all your questions about Havana

Casa Humberto y Maria

Maria and Humberto are amazing!  They are like parents helping their foreign flock!!  We have stayed there so many times I can hardly count...honestly.  We have stayed in both rooms, both have bar fridges, air conditioning, showers, you can hand wash your laundry there and hang it on the line which is very helpful when more

Casa La Terraza, Nora y Mesa

We can think of no better place to stay in Havana than with Nora in her beautiful Casa Colonial.
We felt almost part of the family from the moment we arrived and had a great time talking with Nora and her family. She gave us great information about Havana and helped us find another Casa in Trinidad for which we will write a separate recommendation. The room had its own bathroom and living room ... more

Casa Ludmila
Address: Galiano # 257 Apartamento 27, Piso 2
e/ Concordia y Neptuno
Centro Habana, Cuba
Tel. +53 7 862-6740

My wife and I spent 6 nights in Havana.

We stayed in downtown Havana in Casa Ludmila in the America building. Ludmila (an ophthalmologist) is a beautiful and sweet person that is more than happy to help you find your way around the city and its vicinities. Ludmila and her son, Vladimir Iglesias, speak fluent Spanish and Russian. She rents an air-conditioned room, with independent entrance, with private bathroom and a spacious lobby. The building is very secure. I would say that the accommodation is probably above Cuban standards, but you’ll still miss your home. This casa particular is at the intersection of two very busy streets, Neptuno and Galiano, and it is right on top of “casa de la musica”. If you like Salsa this is the place for you. I would not recommend it for light sleepers. It is a perfect place for people wanting to mingle with all Cuban. It is within walking distance of Chinatown, El Capitolio, Calle Obispo, El Malecon, Parque Central, El Foridita, artesanías (crafts) and paintings, etc, etc … Breakfast are not offered but there is a nice corner store on the ground floor where you can get anything from sandwiches to pizza for as little as 1 CUC. I paid 25CUC/day to stay here.

Hola- Reading the reviews reminds me of my stay in Cuba between 1994-1998, 3 weeks, every six months. I note that the reviewers from the USA and UK seem to be the pickiest. Get over it! It's not the Waldorf!!! Your "hosts" don't provide amenities because they can't afford to. If they are grumpy it's because you are sleeping in their beds so they can earn a living, while they cram into a relative's or neighbor's home. My advice: Take a bottle of lice spray with you, a suitcase full of toilet paper (not to be put in the toilet!), a bag of rice, cooking oil, two cans of canned chicken and two cans of tuna and some granola bars to get you through the tough times. Then spend your / day on some of the best food and music you will EVER eat and hear. Hasta un otra dia...Hola Ruben Aguero, te amo y tambien tu familia. Un dia yo regresso. BAILA! -Line
