La Villa Sonada

My review: We stayed only one night with Mandy and very much enjoyed our experience. Mandy has a lovely personality and we were greeted very warmly. He speaks excellent English while deftly encouraging our efforts with Spanish. He offered us a cup of coffee on his terrace overlooking the city. We had a very nice large room - the best in the house and one of the best furnished we stayed in in Cuba. We chose to have dinner in the evening at his casa. A beautiful white embroidered tablecloth from Trinidad covered the terrace table. We enjoyed a tasty three course dinner - soup, followed by shrimp stuffed green pepper, followed by beautifully cooked fish. We would highly recommend this casa.
How was your room?: Wonderfully spacious room including a very large ensuite.
How was the food they offer?: Breakfast was very nice as was dinner, both served on the terrace with an amazing view overlooking the city of Matanzas.
Other comments: Mandy provided very helpful advice on what to see and do (although we chose to visit the historical pharmacy - brilliant). He also arranged a taxi to the airport with inside knowledge on the time we needed to be there. Spot on. The taxi was a 1951 Plymouth - fun as was the driver!

La Villa Sonada

My review: My husband and I stayed at La Villa Sonada in February 2014. We picked this casa because of all the great reviews and we are very happy we did. Our stay at the casa was wonderful and Mandy could not have been more helpful. We had a beautiful deck outside our room where we enjoyed some wonderful meals. I cannot say enough good things about Mandy. He was always available and happy to provide assistance. He arranged for our airport pickup, a taxi for our transfer to Trinidad, as well as a lovely afternoon at a nearby park. Mandy also speaks English which was extremely helpful. If you are looking for a place to stay in or near Matanzas, I would highly recommend this casa. Our stay at Casa Senora was perfect and if we visit Cuba again, we will definitely stay at Mandy's casa.

How was your room?: Room was excellent. We had a beautiful room on the second floor which was very spacious. Our room had a comfortable bed, a large bathroom, a shower with lots of hot water as well as a fridge. Very clean.

How was the food they offer?: Food was great - very tasty.

Other services they offer: Mandy is always happy to offer advice/assistance re tours/activities/transfers and he can help you find what best suits your interests/needs.

Other comments: Mandy is a perfect host who goes above and beyond.

Villa Sonada

My review: We stayed four nights in Jan. and again mid-Feb 2014. Mandy welcomed us with a warm, genuine smile and outstanding hospitality. We stayed with him last year and he knew when my partner's birthday was-and had a cake waiting! Mandy and staff are very professional and dedicated to making guests feel at home and ensuring a wonderful stay in their home and in Cuba. Mandy willingly helps with further travels, accommodations and his advice is always spot on. The casa is conveniently located-a few minutes walk to Liberty Square or to the countryside along the river. The casa is clean and spacious with an amazing terrace where evening meals are served. Additional rooms, kitchen and terraces are being built-all will be modern, roomy and comfortable. Villa Sonada is wonderful-highly recommended.

How was your room?: We stayed in the main floor en suite and upstairs in the new suite. Both were clean, comfortable, spacious, airy and quiet.

How was the food they offer?: The food is superlative. Excellent morning coffee, fresh fruits and juices and a full American type breakfast. Evening meals were delicious and varied...all homemade, local organically grown and very fresh. Fish was my favourite-likely caught that day! Mandy has a large repetoire of menus-even stuffed peppers. The women also are great cooks. You can ask for what you'd like to eat and you will never be disappointed
