Canalcubano: In the most commercial zone of Pinar del Río, this restaurant of colourful frontage presents a simple and light offer. It belongs to the Rumbos company.

Frommers: This is certainly the most atmospheric place to eat in Pinar del Río. About eight heavy wooden tables with bench seating fill up the main dining room in this old colonial building. High ceilings, modern sculpted wall hangings, and long French doors that open on to the street give this place its character. The food is mediocre and simple. Avoid the pastas and stick to the roasted chicken or sandwiches. In the evenings, they open up a little patio beer garden, with live music and an informal feel.

Canalcubano: There are different reasons why you should go to this restaurant, which is actually part of the delicious hotel of an island, situated on Pinar del Rio’s north coast: the level of its food, criollo and marine, is more than just acceptable; the place is original and quiet, it’s beach, without exaggeration, a real paradise. Unfortunately, or maybe not, its tables are almost exclusively occupied by the guests of the hotel. Probably the majority doesn’t know that they can have lunch and dinner there without staying overnight, just by taking a little boat that sets them over.

Canalcubano: Well-known in all this region, this restaurant serves good meat and fish dishes. It protrudes the smoked "Lomo".Is, without doubt the best address for eating in Pinar del Rio city.

Frommers: This is probably the best dining option in Pinar del Río. Run by the Islazul chain, it's both a restaurant and nightly cabaret. The specialty here is slow-smoked chicken, and it's excellent. There are also several fish and meat dishes. Of these, the chirna frita, a fried fish in a garlic sauce, is good. The main dining room is indoors in a dark room decorated with Afro-Cuban motifs. Service is quick and attentive, a relative rarity in Cuba.

Canalcubano: In a charm wood house from the XIX century, this restaurant offers a delicious Cuban food. Its main course is named "Delicias de Don Tomás" and it has a little bit of everything."El Trapiche" is its traditional coctel. For many people it is the best Viñales’ restaurant.

Frommers: This is probably the most popular restaurant in Viñales, and it's touted in most guidebooks as well as by tour and hotel operators throughout the region. The restaurant's signature dish Las Delicias de Don Tomás is a paella-like dish of Spanish rice cooked and served in an earthenware bowl and featuring bits of chicken, pork, fish, ham, and even lobster. It's usually slightly overcooked and under-seasoned. You'd definitely be better off opting for a simpler pork steak in criolla sauce, or the hefty portion of fried chicken. The atmosphere in this restored 1879 colonial mansion is wonderful, and the building itself has been declared a national monument. You'll want to choose a table on either the small front patio or the more spacious back patio. The house drink is called a "Trapiche" and it's made of rum, pineapple juice, and honey, and served with a sliver of sugar cane as the swizzle stick.

Canalcubano: This is the restaurant of Hotel La Ermita and one of the best places to eat in the way to Valle de Viñales. The menu is basically Cuban. As for the views it enjoys, it is difficult to find better ones in any other place.

Frommers: I was prepared to hate this place. It's definitely a tourist trap catering to tour groups. Yet, the food was surprisingly good, and the show and setting were interesting and informative, without being too kitschy or corny. You reach the restaurant after paying a $1 entrance fee and walking about 270m (600 ft.) through a narrow cave that bisects one of the area's signature mogotes. At the end of the path you come to a re-creation of one of the nomadic homes set up by runaway slaves who lived and hid in these caves. After a brief bit of Afro-Cuban music and dance you reach the restaurant, which is a series of interconnected ranchos, each decorated and representing a different orishá, or Afro-Cuban deity. The main dish here is a slow-roasted chicken seasoned with oregano, cumin, garlic, and lime juice -- it's excellent. And, the yellow rice with bits of ham, bacon, sausage, and peas puts Casa de Don Tomás's version to shame. The restaurant is only open for lunch, but the bar and snack bar located in the cave at the joint's entrance are open 24 hours. This spot also serves as a popular disco on most nights.

Canalcubano: Friendly olde worlde inn placed in the deepest part of the Valle de Viñales, so that the impressive natural environment is its main attractivness. The food and the service have not always the same level, it depends on the arrival of the buses with turists or not.
