Hostal La Roca Holguinera

My review: We decided to stay at a Casa during our holiday in Guardalavaca - we found out about the casa though Cuban junky and we emailed Daniel the owner who confirmed the details and we felt very confident - he made contact when we arrived at our hotel and Daniel confirmed the transport - Rubi our driver arrived on time and was a great driver who spoke enough English so we could get by and learn about the real cuba

upon arrival Daniel met us on arrival and the casa was very clean in the local community and very safe. it is a family casa, Daniel and his wife Marcia joined us in a Cuban club. a great night dancing and drinking with the real Cubans and watched a live show all for 2CUC entrance

the hospitality, breakfast ( much better and fresher than our 4 star hotel) room and transport could not be faulted and if we venture back would not hesitate to go and visit again

How was your room?: good basic clean room - it had a double and single , balcony and en suite bathroom

How was the food they offer?: we had breakfast at 4cuc excellent - fresh bread , fruit, cheese , scambled eggs etc., with lovely Cuban coffee

Other services they offer: organising transport, tourist info and information about cuba

Other comments: If you want any help Daniel will try and help for sure -

Villa La Roca, Holguin

My review: Daniel and his familie welcomed us with a large sign with my name on it, before we entered Holguin - therefore it was easy to find the casa. The family lives in a beautiful house near the city centre. The familie is very friendly and helpful. The dinner in this casa is very good. If you stay in this casa for more days, please ask Daniel for some suggestions for dinner. He knows some good restaurants.

How was your room?: Clean, fresh and with a good shower.

How was the food they offer?: Great

Other services they offer: Very personal. Daniel also brought us to the airport personally, to help us to check in.

Other comments: A great place to start or end your Cuba journey. One of the best casas we visited in Cuba.

Hostal La Roca Holguinera

My review: We loved this casa!

We arrived her in the beginning of our holiday, on the 13th of august, around the time of Carnaval in Holguin.
After a few hours of relaxing time on the roofterrace and very tastefull (chicken)dinner + mojito/beers, Daniel & family took us out to their neighbourhood for some carnavalfestivities-Holguin style. It was really crazy and fun.
Because we had such a great time here, we returned to this casa at the end of our trip three weeks later. That is how much we liked it here :)

How was your room?: Really nice! The room (with balcony) was spacious with airco and the bathroom was also very spacious and clean.
The fridge in the room was stocked with water and beer.

How was the food they offer?: Very nice! The offer both meat (chicken, pork) and fish(fish/shrimps/lobster). We ate chicken with a red sauce, which was excellent.
Breakfast was also good with: fresh fruits, eggs, cheese, sausage & bread.
They also offer different sorts of cocktails, such as mojito & cuba libre.

Other services they offer: Daniel can probably help you with anything you want (or he'll know someone who can).
He is part of a chain of casas particulares that are well reviewed by travellers. Therefore he knows a good casa in almost every Cuban city and he is very willing to help you make a reservation for your next casa.

Other comments: Daniel & family are very good hosts. They are really helpful without being intrusive.

My review: The casa from Daniel and Marcia is a really nice casa and we can for sure recommend it. Daniel speaks very good english and a little bit german, so for guests who don't speak spanish at all it's very practical. The casa has a beautiful terrace where you can sunbath or take a drink. At first we wanted to stay only 3 days, but we had such a nice time there in the casa, that we decided to stay longer with them.

How was your room?: The room was perfect. It's clean, big, with AC and nice bathroom.

How was the food they offer?: The food was really good. We specially recommend the lamb. It was the best lamb we ate in hole Cuba and we where 2 and a half month in Cuba!

Villa La Roca, Holguin, Cuba

My review: Our CubaPapa - Daniel and family are amazing!”
My wife and I spent April and May 2014 in Cuba. Villa La Roca was our first casa that we booked after several emails back and forth with Daniel. At the time, we did not realize just what a delight our 4-night stay with Daniel and his family would be. Gracious, kind and inviting are just a few of the words that describe our experience at the Villa La Roca. The pics and reviews posted by the other travelers do not exaggerate. This is a gem of a place to stay or even start your journey in Cuba. To be fair, it is several minutes outside of Holguin center, but the friendliness of the family and the staff more than make up for the hassle. Daniel arranged Spanish lessons for us, taxis to surrounding areas and a 2-driver jeep to get us to Baracoa. Daniel took us to the local food store where he shops and to an outdoor gym. Food, room, safety and cleanliness were superb. He is witty and kind. As we planned to stay in casas throughout our travels in Cuba, Daniel gave us names of casas for every town we thought we might visit. In addition, he would phone these casas to see if we were there and ask how things were at that casa. He did that for our entire trip. Even on our last day in Cuba, he contacted us to see how we were and to say goodbye. Now that is first class service. We came as strangers and left as friends. We will go back.

My review: We are two friends, who stayed 5 nights in June 2014, before moving on to Santiago de Cuba and Baracoa. We were met, as arranged, at Holguin airport by taxi and taken to the casa. The journey took only about 15 minutes. Our apartment was very comfortable, and we spent a lot of time enjoying the balcony where we would sit, have a drink and watch the world go by. Most days we took breakfast and evening meals in the casa. The dining area is on a covered terrace at the back of the house. You can also sit outside and enjoy lying in the hammocks. Our hosts, Daniel and Marcia, were absolutely charming and could not have been more helpful. Daniel speaks good English, and was always ready to offer advice on where to go and what to see.

How was your room?: We had a very clean, air-conditioned apartment with a balcony overlooking the street. It consisted, as requested, of a bedroom with two beds (one double, one single), a television, our own bathroom with shower, wash-basin and toilet, and an additional room containing a fridge/freezer where we kept beers and water cool. The balcony is at the front of the house, and had a table and two chairs, and offered a nice view of the street.
How was the food they offer?: The food was very good. Lots of fruit, fruit juices, eggs, local vegetables, chicken, pork, fish, seafood, soup. Marcia is a very good cook, and everything we had was delicious.

Other services they offer: Daniel was happy to organise anything we wanted. In our case, this included obtaining taxis for trips to the beach at Guardalavaca, the fishing village of Gibara, and to Santiago de Cuba, at very competitive rates. We were also very kindly included on a picnic outing with their friends, where we swam in a river and ate a wonderful soup called caldosa, cooked in a big pot over an open fire.

Other comments: If you are thinking of staying in Holguin, you should seriously consider staying at the Hostal La Roca Holguinera.

La Roca Holguinera

My review about the casa: It is absolutely beautiful,
I back packed all the way up to the top of Cuba and this is my favourite place I stayed in.
The hospitality of the family is wonderful, they really make you feel at ease and at home.
The food is amazing!
Location of the house is great in my opinion everything is pretty close yet far enough for you to feel cozy.
I would recommend this house to anyone especially young travellers like myself. Daniel the owner of the house is so helpful and helped me research a few things I wanted to do throughout my stay there.
I got talking to a lot of the couple staying in this house too and they equally loved it.

How was your room?: Beautiful, air con was very good, bathroom is clean. The entire facility offered to you is perfect.

How was the food they offer?: Very yummy food, it is so nice to have home cooked food. And made with love of course :) Bring maternity pants guys, you're coming back from holidays with some extra pounds a heads up.

Other services they offer: Just genuine caring for the people staying there

Other comments: I loved it :) Cannot wait to come back

Hostal La Roca Holguinera

Hostal La Roca Holguinera HolguinMy review: We landed at Holguin airport and booked this casa for our first two nights in our month-long vacation in Cuba. We passed through Holguin twice more on our way around Cuba and connected with Daniel (who speaks perfect English!) each time. He is the best resource for places to stay, taxis, things to do, where to buy things, what to see... not just in Holguin, but all over the country. He also has a wonderful casa - comfortable, safe (contrary to Miss X's review on TripAdvisor... we were out often after dark and it's a neighborhood full of families, seniors and children. We never saw anything or anyone who made us feel unsafe) and spacious rooms, a big terrace with hammocks, and great food! More than the casa though, we feel that Daniel and his wife Marcia are our new friends. They're so warm and friendly and generous... we can't wait to see them again next year! We highly recommend this casa to anyone who wants to experience the "non-all-inclusive" world of Cuba. The casa is about 20 minutes from downtown if you like to walk, or five minutes from the horse taxi gathering spot for an inexpensive and unique taxi ride!

Casa specifics: English speaking, Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Hidden gem, Safe, Patio
Amenities: TV, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Laundry service, Balcony, Ceiling fan, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Bathroom with shower

How was your room?: Clean, comfortable and typically Cuban.
How was the food they offer?: Delicious, authentically Cuban and generous portions.
Other services they offer: Daniel is like the Godfather for travelers! He has contacts everywhere and we were satisfied with every one that we used. He can get the best prices on taxis and I trust his advice completely.

La Roca Holguinera

My review: This was my first visit to cuba. After a 800 km trip around the east and having seen a lot of different casas, I deeply appreciate Daniel’s casa and his services. I found nothing even close to this anywhere else in the eastern provinces. Daniel’s casa is super clean and of high standard. I really enjoyed staying in the new appartment with a spacious balcony, private entrance, private bathroom (everything perfectly functioning!), private kitchen (though the meals served by Marcia were the best I found during my journey). Even more outstanding is Daniel‘s incredible service. I was surprised his network provides whatever is needed: Best casas everywhere along my way through Cuba, best taxi prices (and I did compare!), great guides (English speaking), marvellous locations (paladares), valuable travelling-destinations (beautyful&lonely beaches!), pick-up services, inside Informations on whatever I could think of (I could call him anytime – he stood ready to pull strings and help out). His English is perfect – and now he’s even learning German very well. Good man! Best choice!

Villa La Roca Holguinera, Holguin

My review: First class casa - great service - warm&fiendly hosts - outstanding meals!
Arriving at Holguin-airport after an 11-hours flight Daniel's pick-up service stood ready to bring us and our luggage (including two bikes) to his casa. There we were welcommed most heartly by Daniel and his wife Marcia. We were put up in the newly built appartment with our own large balcony, kitchen and bathroom en suite, all at perfect european hotel-standard. Our positive experiences with Daniel's services could fill pages, including great support with a medical urgency. The casas he recommended for our further trip around the east turned out to be the best we could get. Prices for taxi-trips were more than fair, always reliable, safe and in time. Our vegetarian meals served by Marcia were very tasty, more than we could eat and lovely arranged. Fresh Coffee any time was no problem. We were glad to store our bicycle boxes at Daniels house. So what we can say is: If you want to see Cuba, Daniel will open any door for you and help you to have an unvorgetable time.
